OUR HISTORY

In 1927 a group of devout ladies borrowed $500 to purchase a church building and prevent it from becoming a sheep barn. With the building, they began an ongoing Sunday School and Ladies Aid meetings.
On March 18, 1953, the older Sunday School members and the young adults from the Bible Study, who met in homes since 1946, became an organized congregation called the Cummings Community Church. The Evangelical Free Church of America had deep convictions based on the authority of God’s Word, but allowed for differences on minor doctrinal issues. These convictions were important because members of the Community Church were from many denominational backgrounds. Desiring strong roots for our generation and those to follow, affiliation was made with the EFCA on July 24, 1957, thus becoming the Evangelical Free Church of Cummings.

FROM CUMMINGS TO MAYVILLE

Starting with meager funds, but a strong dedication to serve the Lord, Earl Eveland was called to be the first pastor. Over the years facilities were updated and various pastors served our flock and the Lord chose to bless us with growth. Early in the 90's we embarked on a move from our location in Cummings to a new facility located between Mayville and Portland. Though our facilities, staff, and congregation has grown and changed over the years, our desire still remains to grow reproducing disciples of Jesus Christ.

OUR FUTURE

We have a vision for every family within 25 miles of Riverside to clearly hear and experience the gospel and have an accessible avenue of discipleship. As part of that vision, we are in the midst of a capital campaign to raise funds for a lobby expansion and interior remodel. We want to expand our nursery and lobby area to provide more room for children's ministry and other outreach events. You can learn more about our CONNECT campaign by clicking on the link

OUR BELIEFS

We hold to the core tenets of the Christian faith: the Bible is God's inspired word, Christ is the God-man who died and rose again to pay the penalty for our sins, our sins have separated us from God, and only faith in Christ Jesus can reconcile us with God. Read our full doctrinal statement. And if you want to learn more about how you can start a relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ you can click here or even better, contact someone at the church. We would count it a privilege to listen to your story and share the good news God has for you!
